On the weekend the 18th and 19th of April the 3rd and 4th rounds of the AORC was held at Welshpool Victoria. A three and a half hour cross country was ran on Saturday, the track was very whooped out sand track. I started on the second row of the pros so I was behind the eight ball from the start. The week leading up to the event I was fighting the flu and I got a bad start and had to fight through the pack. After the first lap I was totally bugged and struggling to breath and it was only twenty minutes into a three an half hour cross country. I keep pushing on and got up to fourth place in the Pro E1 class by the first fuel stop at the one an half hour mark. By the second fuel stop around the three hour mark the track totally whooped out and felt like I was hitting every whoop, but I was on the tail of third place rider and I had to stop for fuel for the last two laps. When I got fuel Dad said you have two laps to catch that rider if you want third place and need to dig deep and push yourself if you want it. It took me one an three-quarters of a lap to catch and pass him, I started to pull a handy gap about five minutes from the end I starting to think all that torture and pushing myself harder than I ever thought I could was going to paying off. Then out of the blue my bike locked up and stopped. I tried to restart it but with no success by this time third and fourth place rode pass and I fell to ground in exhaustion and disappointment. I started to push my bike back which was near impossible in the sand, I looked up to see dad jogging down the track to help me push the bike. Because I pushed my bike back and didn’t finish the ninth lap, I got a DNF even though by time and laps I got fifth.
Straight into the pits I collapsed and lied on the ground. I was devastated. Dad started getting my practice bike ready for the sprints on Sunday. It rained over night and settled the dust. I started off a bit steady in the first sprint, but after a few panadols and nurofen I started to come better. By the end of the day I was up to third in Pro E1 and I got thirteenth outright in one sprint. So the weekend finished on a high.
Thank you to all my sponsors, I couldn’t do it without you guys
